O Placebo originou-se em Luxemburgo, no momento em que Brian Molko deparou-se com Stefan Osdal. Brian é britanico filho de escoces e de uma americana, já o segundo é sueco. Dessa reunião não gerou-se nada tão produtivo e só a alguns anos mais tarde quando a dupla se reencontrou que juntos conseguiram dar frutos ao trabalho.
